The Iliad and the Odyssey

Here is another book at risk of being lost because of CPSIA, adapted by Jane Werner Watson and illustrated by Alice and Martin Provensen. Copyright date 1956.

The cover of this book is deceptive. What's inside is truly awesome. The book has been well loved in our library and continues to be checked out by kids - some you would never think would check this out.

Some of the end pages. Wow!

The title page:

The story of Agamemnon:

Another great illustration:

Besides the illustrations, the classic Greek stories of Homer are in an easy to read format for young readers.

Compare that with the frequent requests by some to add to our graphic novels collection - books that are mostly pictures with no text.

This book is best of both worlds. Great text and images.

Surely this comes under the collectibles umbrella? Not that that makes me any fonder of the CPSIA, just... surely? This is beautiful...

Unfortunately, not many collectors go after ex-library copies because of condition. Even then the CPSIA prevents distribution of suspected books and they will have to be destroyed. This book is on my list of books to save somehow if the law really does come down on libraries.
